CALL, Christian Academy of Language and Learning, is a Spanish language school located on the Seminary campus in San Jose, Costa Rica. Many students pass through the CALL classrooms each year including professionals, volunteer missionaries and university students. MidAmerica Nazarene University has been consistent in sending student teachers to the program each year.

The student teachers take Spanish classes with CALL and teach at the International Christian School in Heredia. The students also have free time to travel and enjoy Costa Rica. This program has been a great success each semester with as many as six student teachers on campus each semester.

MNU2015

Two student teachers arrived in November of 2015 for a one-month stay. Misty Olsen and Jaymes South went above and beyond by helping at an orphanage by teaching soccer clinics and donating soccer balls. Misty coaches soccer in Kansas, and asked for donations before her trip. Since they brought so many cleats, soccer balls, shirts and shin guards, the CALL Coordinator wanted to find a good home for the supplies where they would be needed and appreciated.

We found a home for the supplies with the San Pedro de Poas Soccer School. The more than 40 children in the soccer school come from 11 different communities in the area of Poas. The children and the parents were very happy to receive these items since most are not able to purchase quality soccer equipment because of the high cost. The parents said they would never be able to purchase name brand soccer cleats like those donated. It is a blessing for these children to receive the supplies.

Anderson Calvo, a member of the Poas Church who arranged for the school to receive the equipment shares these words: “Thanks so much to Misty and everyone who donated these supplies. You can be sure they will be very well used and appreciated.”

CALL is pleased to have such generous and kind students study with the program at SENDAS. If you are interested in learning Spanish with CALL, visit our website for more information.
