In October and November 2016, the Nazarene Seminary of the Americas, in coordination with Regional Education and Pastoral Development, offered their third class in Pastoral Education for the year: Holistic Church Development.  Dr. Monica Mastronardi, the General Editor of the School of Leadership for the Mesoamerica Region taught the classes on Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m.

There were 12 centers connected for this course which had a total of 48 students.  The countries represented included Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and Mexico.

The course included five important topics in church development:

  • Biblical Fundamentals of the Mission of the Church
  • The Wesleyan Model of the Mission of the Church
  • How to do an Evaluation of the Mission of the Church
  • Discipleship Plan ABCDE

Pastor Hector Corraliza joined the class from his home in the South part of the island of Puerto Rico and he shares these words:

“The pastoral course, Holistic Church Development, taught by Dr. Monica Mastronardi has been a great blessing since I have been able to refresh some church growth concepts and terms.  Also, the course will help me to develop a holistic vision of congregational growth.  I will use the slides share in the class with the leaders of my church.  This has been a great blessing for my life and my ministry.”

Another student, Ricardo Gonzalez says, “It helped us to reflect about our situation as the church.  We were able to refresh some church growth concepts and remember our responsibility as leaders of the church.  It is good to share with our Nazarene brothers from other parts of Puerto Rico and other areas of the Mesoamerica Region.”

The next course will be in 2017. Visit the SENDAS webpage for more information about the dates for the next year.
