On October 1, the Nazarene Seminary of the Americas (SENDAS) and the South African Theological Seminary (SATS) signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” to develop an association between the two entities.

The agreement states that the South African Seminary will validate the credits from SENDAS’ Master program (with concentrations in Holistic Church Development, Family Counseling and Cross Cultural Studies) as part of their Master in Theology degree. The SENDAS students that want to receive the degree from SATS would need to complete an additional mini thesis, directed by tutors hired by SENDAS, and pay for the SATS´ degree. The thesis may be written in Spanish or Portuguese, so it is not necessary to write it in English.

The Master in Theology from SATS is accredited by the Council of Higher Education (CHE), the Education and Training Quality Assurer (ETQA) of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and is registered by the Department of Education.

Dr. Keith Anderson, President of ProMETA (Programs for Accessible Master’s Degrees in Theological Studies), an organization that already had an agreement with SATS, was the link between the two institutions.

The Principal of SATS, Dr. Rueben van Rensburg, was pleased with the agreement between the two institutions of higher education that share similar goals and he said, “We anticipate a fruitful association and a good working relationship with SENDAS for many years.”

The SENDAS President, Dr. Ruben Fernandez adds, “We celebrate SENDAS’ new strategic alliance with a cutting edge institution in distance theological education on the global level and with high prestige and recognition in South Africa, a country with a strong educational quality culture. It makes us very happy to know that our graduates from whichever SENDAS master degree from whatever country in the Americas, now have access to not only a recognized ecclesiastical degree, but also a graduate academic degree that allows the possibility of continuing studies at the PhD level.”
This new partnership follows others that SENDAS has recently established with Nazarene Bible College (Click here to read it), and Notrhwest Nazarene University both institutions located in the USA (Click here to read it)
