Inside the Doors: An honest conversation about why children of believers turn away from faith

On Wednesday, March 31, Dr. Samuel Perez and Pastor Rey Matos joined facilitator Juan Manuel Fernandez for a live webinar via Facebook LIVE on the Nazarene Seminary of the Americas Facebook page. The title of the webinar was “Inside the Doors: An honest conversation about why children of believers turn away from faith.” The discussion addressed the sad reality that even while the church is in great measure growing, an entire generation is walking away from the faith every day. The reason is closely linked to what happens “inside the doors” of each home. SENDAS was able to bring these two experts together to discuss 5 essential questions about the factors contributing to this phenomenon.

Nearly 4,000 people registered for this Facebook event which lasted a little more than an hour, and more than 800 joined the conversation live. Since the live event, more than 15,000 people have seen the recording.

Dr. Samuel Perez Rivera is a member of the SENDAS faculty and is an expert in the area of counseling. He has a doctorate in Christian Counseling, a doctorate in Psychotherapy, and is currently completing his doctoral dissertation for a Doctor of Theology (PhD) degree.

Rev. Rey Matos is the lead pastor of the church Christian Ministry Catacumba #5 located in Puerto Rico. He is an author of the books “Lord, that My Children Love You,” and “When Sex Is Not Enough.” He was also the spokesman for the family for organizations such as Family Life Ministry and Promise Keepers of Puerto Rico. Matos ministers through weekly radio programs reaching an audience comprising couples, parents, and youth.

In addition to discussing this vitally important theme for the church presently, the presenters invited attendees to receive further training through the Masters in Orientation of the Family degree offered by SENDAS. More than 70 people completed the pre-registration form at the conclusion of the transmission. Several of them are currently in the admissions process to begin this masters program.

These types of initiatives allow SENDAS to attract many people from different denominations and reach leaders and pastors in the Spanish-speaking world. We thank Pastor Rey Matos, Dr. Samuel Perez, and all who make possible these transmissions that are such a blessing for the church.
