In mid-May a group of eight from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California, arrived to San Jose, including Dr. Scott Bennett, the Spanish professor for the first of two courses. The program lasts nine weeks and ends in mid-July. The students live with Costa Rican families, attend Spanish class each day, and travel each week visiting various sites including museums, volcanoes and parks. For the second session, three additional students will join the group to complete Spanish 102. The students are awarded a total of eight credit hours for their successful completion of the two courses.

The highlight of the trip is a four-day trip to La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano after the completion of the first course. This is a well-deserved time of rest and activities including canopy tour, hot springs, and options to horseback ride o white water raft. This is the third year for the PLNU Spanish Department/Study Abroad to travel abroad with CALL.

This is the first year for CALL to host students from Northwest Nazarene University, located in Idaho. The Psychology department, through the leading of Dr. Glena Andrews, arranged for the group of five students to visit various sites, including psychologists’ offices, hospital clinics, a preschool and the Bribri indigenous area to learn more about psychology and culture in Costa Rica.
