On November 23, 2013, Dr. Jonathan Salgado received the Distinguished Service Award from Point Loma Nazarene University.  Dr. Salgado is an Associate Professor with SENDAS.

Dr. Salgado was born in Guatemala in a Quaker home.  Dr. Salgado completed his postgraduate studies (M.A. Religion) in Pasadena College (now Point Loma Nazarene University), and then obtained the Doctorate in Ministry degree from the School of Theology at Claremont.  He was ordained as a minister with the Church of the Nazarene in Los Angeles in 1970.

Dr. Salgado and his wife Maggie have spent over 40 years working in institutions of higher education, churches and organizations of human development in Europe, the United States and Latin America.  Dr. Salgado founded the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Guatemala.  He also served at Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Dr. Salgado was the Vice President of SENDAS in San Jose, Costa Rica for six years during the 1980s. Since 1997, he has served as an associate professor for SENDAS, teaching master’s level courses specializing in these two courses:  Advanced Seminar in Bible Interpretation and Exposition and Advanced Seminar in Pastoral Counseling.  He has taught in various centers including Mexico City, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Argentina, Peru and Ecuador.

Since 1997 Dr. Salgado has worked with Global Initiatives, serving Latin America in many areas including the development and equipment of leaders, assisting the poor, and in fostering international relationships to aid in social and economic development.  They also help families and couples through counseling and workshops.

It is a privilege for SENDAS to have Dr. Jonathan Salgado teaching with us, and it is an honor to congratulate him for this well-deserved award.  We pray that God will continue blessing him and his wife in all their future plans.
